Five countries, one band – between Germany, Great Britain, France, Italy and Turkey Derya Yildirim &amp; Grup Şimşek spin intoxicating Turkish pop music. Since their first joint performance within the context of the the New Hamburg Festival in 2014, the quintet wanders together on the trail of the Anatolian folk icons such as Selda Bağcan, Barış Manço and Özdemir Erdoğan and lends the Tukish heritage its very own laid-back, psychedlic complexion. Yildirim&#x27;s enchanting singing, their Saz playing and the instrumentation of the Grup Şimşek – inspired by Jazz, Funk and Pop – they understand themselves not only as interpreters of elaborate compositions, rather as the art of improvisation. Due to the BAG Corona measures, the legendary Monday RONIN concerts will be staged in Moods during May. Monday in Exil is for RONIN, the Zen-Funk quartet founded by Nik Bärtsch, the constant basis for their work on «Ritual Groove Music». Together with Jeremias Keller (bass), Kaspar Rast (drums) and Sha (bass- and doublebass clarinet) the Zurich composer and pianist play a music that follows a continuous aesthetic: to achieve the maximum impact with the minimum of resources. In Morocco the songstress Oum has long captured the hearts of her people of her country and is revered like a diva. She blends Moroccan Gnawa rhythms with fine doses of Jazz sounds, Pop, R’n’B, Soul and Funk. A qualified architect, she brings the genre-mix into a balance, on which her expressive voice can unfold in a wonderful manner. Her journeys and encounters in recent years have provided the material for her new album «Daba», which translated means «now». This urgency in the title is echoed in the songs: on the search for a universal music, she reflects on the world’s disquiet, yet simultaneously inspires hope.

Everything is created in the moment. Jolting drum machines. Below which booms a club groove. Cabel spaghetti, feedback from tape machines, screaming guitar amps. Behind them a multi-instrumentalist and an electronics-wizard that follow their instincts; to there, where the music takes them. Wunderkind Domi Chansorn and cellar child Olan Galactica (aka Olivier Zurkirchen) blend Electronica and Techno with Psychedelica and in the process deprive the bad habits of club culture of their ego.

Meridian Brothers

The Meridian Brothers from Bogotá really stir up the tropical sound: traditional Latin American musical styles get a mauling and distorted to the absurd. What originally started as an experimental project by the avantgarde musician Eblis Alvarez, it has meanwhile as developed to a Live-Band, which significantly stretches the definition of Latin music with a variety of instruments and synthesizers. So far, that Cumbia takes on a a psychedelic form and Salsa becomes progressive rock. Supported by SüdKulturFonds

Tenors of Kalma

Jimi Tenor and Kalle Kalima have been making music together for over 10 years. In their band &quot;Tenors of Kalma&quot; they have joined up with drummer Joonas Riippa and create «electropsychedelic jazz trance». The music of the Finns is penetrative and jazzy, where danceable numbers trade places with moving ballads. The combination of electronic pop music and jazz generates a dusky-spiritual swinging sound full of wonderful grooves which sound like Sun Ra met up with Kraftwerk.
