In the best klezmer tradition, Cheibe Balagan draws on various musical influences - from Eastern Europe to Switzerland to Japan - and fuses them into rousing, danceable pieces. The Zurich septet gained national fame through the soundtrack of the hit movie «Wolkenbruch» and since then has been creating an exuberant atmosphere, whether at the Montreux Jazz Festival, street festivals or in dimly lit bars. At Moods, Cheibe Balagan will release their third Album answering the essential questions of life such as: What do unicorn hunters have in common with in-laws? How do you greet the mice in the kitchen? And how many onions belong in a pot of «gefilte fish»?

Their music moves between Psychedelic Rock, Punk and New Wave with political and socio-critical song texts. Since the foundation in 2013 the duo has played over 160 concerts in Switzerland and abroad, from big club and festival stages to small DIY gigs. On their second album, «WET», (release on 20. August 2021 on the Swiss label Hummus Records) the two musicians now expand the possibility of the bass + drum tandem with unforeseen sounds and influences from improvised music. The result of the mix is a freshly squeezed Ester-Poly juice with a bitter socio-critical aftertaste.

They describe their style as «Gospel Porn» and otherwise simply bristle with self-irony and satire: the two enfants terribles are known as Wanlov The Kubolor and Rapper MC M3nsa Ansah, and they stir up the music scene of Ghana with their trippy sound. The Fokn Bois use groovy Hip-Hop, Dub and Afro-Techno as the foundation for their ingenious and bawdy texts in Afro-English slang. Their high-energy concerts, where they will be accompanied by keyboarder Andras Weil, remind us of unusual art performances. He possesses immense knowledge about traditional dance forms from the most diverse regions of Ethiopia and understands how to combine and further develop these with modern elements. In addition, he is the founder of the Fendika Cultural Center in Addis Abeba. K-Sanchis &amp; Fendika is a collaboration between the Zurich musicians Jeroen Visser (baritone sax), Steve Buchanan (alto sax) and the house band of Fendika. For the residence in Moods the group – comprising six musicians, two dancers and a songstress – creates something new from the sound of traditional instruments. Thereby the dance of Melaku Belay and Emebet Woldetsedik shows how closely the dance and the music are interwoven. The line-up is completed with the songstress Nardos Tesfaw, who can soon be seen in the latest work by the Swiss film-maker Heidi Specogna. Supported by SüdKulturFonds

Stormy music, merciless rhythms and an incredible groove: Seun is the son of Fela Kuti, the founder of Afrobeat, which once set Nigeria’s dictators in fear and panic. During his concerts, the young Seun – who is equally singer, soloist and saxophonist – reflect his father’s anger, yet has the charisma and wit of a great entertainer. Even as a child, Seun was part of Fela’s legendary band, the Egypt 80, which still accompanies him to this day. Seun plays Afrobeat in the family tradition and breathes his own, fresh spirit into them with influences from Rap and Hip Hop. A few months ago he released an EP with three new songs, co-produced by Robert Glasper.

During the decades the instruments of the twelve masters of highspeed brass-band music of Fanfare Ciocarlia have acquired a patina quite their own. They are loved and mistreated. Over 2000 concerts within the last 18 years have left their traces! Not only on the instruments. And that is still not enough: the party at which Fanfare Ciocarlia blows up a storm and thus notoriously gets the audience a-whirlin‘ does not pass quickly. Forget «Balkan Beats», forget the hype, here comes the real deal!

This Power Woman is a stunner! In 2013, the Kenyian rapper, songstress and percussionist Muthoni initiated the project Drummer Queen in collaboration with the Swiss Producer GR! (MDQ) and Hook. The band was the highlight of the recent M4Music festival. The second joint album &quot;SHE&quot; will be released in the Autumn of 2017. Above all else, one should not however miss her indescribable live-show: throbbing beats that shake you to your bones, rapped passages, lingering singalong lines, powerful female dancers and at the centre Muthoni: she spreads her message full of energy and with great charisma. With their blend of Balkan, Polka, World, Brass and Jazz, the ten boys with Swiss-Bosnian-Algerian roots do not sound in the slightest like a typical Balkan Pop band. Melancholic Sevdah melodies trade places with tight horn passages, on a foundation featuring a groovy rhythm section. The songs will be sung alternately in Arabic, English, French, Serbo-Croatish, Roma and Spanish with seamless transition. Sounds like Babylonian language confusion? It is indeed. Yet music that seduces us to dance is a language that everyone understands.

Shamstep. That&#x27;s how this band, with its roots in Palestine, describes its music, which gives rise to enthusiastically dancing audiences from the Mid East to Europe. The four boys play a mix of traditional Arabic Dabke and electronic beats, Dubstep and Reggae. With analog synths, hypnotic guitar melodies and Arabic-English texts that deal with freedom and the fight for equality, they have developed their very own sound. And with that triggered a movement that unites cultures both on the dancefloor and way beyond the usual boundaries. Moods celebrates its 25th birthday with Stolze Openair. Hypnotic Brass Ensemble

Full horn passages and crisp riffs, mixed up with a Hip-Hop-Beat: that&#x27;s the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble. Thanks to their father, Kelan Phil Cohran (Earth, Wind &amp; Fire, Sun Ra), the seven brothers clearly have the music and rhythm in their blood. In their interplay, the trumpet and trombone sections complement each other seamlessly and develope catchy melodies, always supported by a steady tuba bass line. In the past, the band has played with diverse artistes such as Erykah Badou, Snoop Dogg, Prince and Damon Albarn (Gorillaz), and their new album «Bad Boys of Jazz» is currently being put together. The boys deliver an energetic live-show with rap passages and call-and-response interaction, which gets both musicians and audience alike dancing and sweating.

Moon Hooch sounds like a street Dubstep-Jazz-Punk-Band. No wonder, given that the three musicians began their band career in various New York subway stations and were also not to be stopped by the police efforts to move them on from around Bedford Avenue Station in Williamsburg. Following their appearance on Jools Holland&#x27;s show, club and festival organisers around the world are competing to book the smart New York boys. From the very first beats of their concerts it becomes clear: here on stage we have a unique live band, which, in all senses of the word, blows everything else away.
