Summer at Moods

From mid-June to mid-September, Moods takes a summer break. Then it will be unusually quiet at Moods with no sound checks, no bar service, no piano tuning and no suppliers, musicians and technicians going in and out of the club. Instead, we use the concert-free time to take care of all the things that have been left lying around. Whether it's tidying up the office, carrying out major repair work or oiling the club floor. And because we love our job, we simply can't resist organising the occasional concert in the summer. We have four of these summer specials this year and I would like to present them to you here.

17.6. Akutuk Origins
You've probably never seen anything like it! Akutuk Origins use water as a percussion instrument. This percussion technique, which is called «Akutuk», originates from Cameroon and is traditionally passed down among women. Unfortunately, this cultural heritage has almost disappeared, which is why Akutuk Origins now want to bring it back to the people. And because we can't flood Moods with water, the concert will take place in the Barfussbar.
27.6. Alessio Menconi Organ Trio
A tribute to Wes Montgomery: the American musician is still one of the most influential jazz guitarists today. To mark his 100th birthday, the trio led by guitarist Alessio Menconi plays pieces by Wes Montgomery, reinterpreting and rearranging them while ensuring that the original sound is retained.
07.08. Marcos Valle
Even if you don't recognise the name: You know his songs. We've all heard hits like «Summer Samba» and «Estrelar» and perhaps simply didn't realise that they were by Marcos Valle. The Brazilian musician helped shape bossa nova and styles based on it, such as brazilelectro and contemporary Brazilian jazz. In short: it will be a danceable concert including positive vibes and beach holiday feelings.
23.08. Brushy One String
To be honest, I only know one song by Brushy One String, and that's Chicken in a Corn. But I've seen the accompanying video countless times (it has an impressive 65 million views on YouTube). However, the Jamaican singer and bassist has much more to offer than just this one song and impresses with his raspy voice, a raw sound and, last but not least, his guitar, which only has one string.
