Sagil Ilyas Md. Amin is an interdisciplinary artist currently in his fourth semester of fashion design studies at the HGK in Basel. In his works, Sagil addresses his Swiss-Malaysian roots as well as his queer identity and comments on contemporary issues from this perspective. He weaves these topics into his works, which include sketching, draping, photography, painting, writing, performance and music, and which often flow into and complement each other in different projects. &quot;BOYTOY&quot; as a series deals with the idea of projection, phenomenology and consumption of sex and intraspecific relationships between people from the artist&#x27;s perspective. The style of Jenys, a project of 22 years old electronic musician born in Russia and currently based in Paris, can be defined as a beautiful fusion of crystalized IDM and catchy-tune pop music. She mostly known for her works using masterly intense voice-morphing blended with a glitch-core grooves such as the ballads «Being here» and «Hometown», both are the parts of her debut EP «S.ncerity». This time Jenys prepared a new live show full of vivid dreams and infatuation.

Experiencing music together is at the heart of the family concert series at Moods. There is something for everyone, so there are no children&#x27;s songs, just interactive concerts that invite you to dance and marvel. In a relaxed and happy atmosphere, families have the opportunity to explore the colourful world of musical styles together and get caught up in the excitement. An exciting live experience of music, poetry and performance: Andrina Bollinger invites you into her castle, her garden, her world full of secrets and thoughts. She sings with a unique, earthy voice that alternates between singing, shouting and humming. Accompanied by drummer Arthur Hnatek and bassist Jules Martinet, she plays synthesizer, Telecaster guitar and drums. Children of all ages are welcome to this concert. We try to keep the volume at a reasonable level, but we still recommend ear protection for the little ones. The American jazz pianist Peter Madsen can look back on a successful career spanning over 40 years. His breakthrough came in 1987 when world star Stan Getz invited him to join his band. Since then, he has played with the who&#x27;s who of the jazz scene - from Benny Golson, Stanley Turrentine to Chris Potter, Joe Lovano, Kenny Garrett, Dewey Redman, Don Cherry, Fred Wesley and Maceo Parker. In 2001, Peter moved from New York to Austria, where he met the exceptional talent David Helbock and became his teacher, mentor and friend. In the meantime, David Helbock has grown out of his former teacher&#x27;s footsteps and is himself a multiple prizewinner of the world&#x27;s largest jazz piano solo competition in Montreux, has released over 20 albums as a leader and is celebrated by the press. For this joint project, Peter Madsen and David Helbock have brought on board the best rhythm section that Austria has to offer in jazz. Raphael Preuschl and Herbert Pirker have been a well-rehearsed team for over 20 years and are the most sought-after bass-drums duo in Vienna.

Nina Reiter MetaLogue

Album Release «evolving»

The newly formed 10-piece ensemble MetaLogue, led by singer Nina Reiter, is reviving the music of Lucerne composer Mani Planzer, who died in 1997 and was almost forgotten. As a musician, composer, organist, teacher, choirmaster and big band leader, Planzer had a decisive influence on the cultural landscape of Central Switzerland. He was awarded the Lucerne City Prize for Art and Culture in 1981 and the Lucerne Living Space Prize posthumously in 1998. The band name &quot;MetaLogue&quot; refers to Planzer&#x27;s penchant for wordplay and symbolises the symbiosis of the various elements that come together in this project. On the one hand, it is the young musicians who bring Planzer&#x27;s music into the light of the present and allow the audience to participate in a musical dialogue that takes place far away from the mainstream. On the other hand, it is the lyrics of singer Nina Reiter, who picks up on Planzer&#x27;s pioneering spirit in the synthesis of jazz and poetry, thus creating a meta-level to the previously instrumental compositions. On the occasion of the upcoming anniversary – Planzer would have celebrated his 85th birthday in 2024 – the Mani Planzer Big Band and the MorschAchBlasorCHester will pay tribute to the musical bridge-builder, trailblazer and pioneer with works arranged by Nina Reiter.

Grammy-nominated US jazz guitarist Julian Lage is an exceptional talent: he began playing with musicians such as Carlos Santana, Pat Metheny, Kenny Werner, Toots Thielemans and Gary Burton at the age of eight, captivating audiences with his impressive technical skill and emotional depth. Together with his brilliant and well-rehearsed trio, consisting of bassist Jorge Roeder and drummer Dave King, Julian Lage Moods presents his latest records: his second Blue Note long-player &quot;View with a Room&quot; (2022) and the accompanying EP &quot;Layers&quot; (2023). The latter was even nominated for a Grammy in 2024. Always scouring American music history, Julian Lage always keeps an eye out for new trends and creates music with fresh melodies and his unmistakable precision.

L'Éclair

L’Eclair is a cosmic instrumental six piece from Geneva, Switzerland. Their origins can be traced back to 2015 when, while studying in London, keyboardist Sebastien Bui and guitarist Stefan Lilov recorded several demos together in their hotel room. Hearing something special in this batch of songs, they returned to Geneva and enlisted Yavor Lilov (drums), Alain Sandri (percussion, keyboard), Quentin Pilet (percussion) and Elie Ghersinu (bass) to flesh out these ideas into a full fledged band. The relentless grooves, classic tones and silky smooth melodies were instantly present, and L’Eclair was born.

Hailing from the French Caribbean and living in Brooklyn, Adi Oasis is currently taking the music world by storm. Since launching her solo career in 2018, she has performed with Anderson .Paak, Gregory Porter, JUNGLE, Masego, Thundercat, appeared at festivals such as the Newport Jazz Fest, Love Supreme or Montreux Jazz Festival and the stream of rave reviews just won&#x27;t dry up. On her debut album &quot;Lotus Glow&quot;, released in 2023, Adi Oasis combines her retro-futuristic signature sound, her soaring voice and her spectacular bass playing to create a very personal and political work that particularly reflects the reality of her life as a Black female immigrant in America. &quot;Lotus Glow represents the flower I&#x27;ve blossomed into, the artist I&#x27;ve worked on becoming all my life. In Yoruba tales, the Iroko is a tricky symbol – a troll inhabiting the top branches of a tree called “the throne of god,” guarded against lest he come to earth, be seen and drive men mad. But don&#x27;t worry: This Iroko here brings tunefulness, groove and warmth. Bassist and vocalist Avishai Cohen and conguero singer Abraham Rodriguez Jr. present their first joint Latin jazz project with Banda Iroko. They have brought in reinforcements from Cuba, Argentina, Spain and Puerto Rico. And not just any reinforcements: Iroko consists exclusively of experts in their respective instrumental field, including Virginia Alves, a young singer who is strongly supported by Cohen. As usual, there will be seats in the gallery for this concert. This will leave the club area free for dancing!

A sparkling, deep meditation by a smouldering fire: this is how to describe the state of mind that comes from listening to the new album &quot;Mist&quot; by Marc Méan&#x27;s Trio Field. Méan&#x27;s music lives and breathes out of silence, drawing us into a magical world of sound that is hard to resist. Sometimes it is massive, sometimes brittle, sometimes dark and dissonant, sometimes touchingly romantic. Méan deliberately brought the pieces for the album to rehearsals unfinished, allowing his fellow musicians Patrice Moret (double bass) and Paul Amereller (drums) to actively participate in the compositional process, with the result that the songs now lie almost organically on the trio.

When Rodrigo Botter Maio came to Zurich in 1991, he already had the Jazz via Brasil Group with him, albeit as a formation with musicians from Italy, Boston and Austria. The band, which was re-formed in Switzerland with local musicians, has since become a veritable institution for the finest Brazilian jazz. Since their first CD &quot;Be Bop Brasileiro&quot; (1993), all ten albums have been released by Moods, the latest &quot;Eu RO Pa&quot; being released in December 2019. This year&#x27;s concert celebrates the long history of the Jazz via Brasil Group with the hits from all their previous albums and their unmistakable Brazilian swing.

Back in 2009, their fresh rock/post-rock electronic sound, described as euphoric, holistic, spacey, and raucous quickly catapulted the Jordanian-Palestinian band from Amman to massive success; an artistic journey that saw them become one of the leading socially and politically outspoken bands reviving the Arab independent music scene. El Morabba3 broke cultural barriers and appealed to a generation of hunger-stricken fans living in an unstable and restless region, as they craved a new sound; one that expressed the thoughts, concerns, and anger of the people towards the realities they are living today. Today, Muhammad Abdulla and Basel Naouri live in Berlin, they have restructured the band and take El Morabba3&#x27;s earlier aesthetic evolution into a new direction. Departing from the raw post-rock energy of the first album and the polished instrumental/electronic fervor of the second, the artists have taken a deep dive into experimentation with electronic tunes and storytelling.

Σtella has actually become one of Greece&#x27;s most popular indie stars with her reduced synth sounds. Actually. Her album Up and Away was first released in 2022 on the legendary Sub Pop label, and the Athens-based painter, visual artist and performer sounds completely different on it. During the recording process, she rediscovered her parents&#x27; record collection from the 50s and 60s full of Greek folk-pop artists and now presents vintage pop poems about the agonies and raptures of love. With a honeyed voice, accompanied by bouzouki and zither alongside drums and bass, Σtella sings of consuming affairs and deeper relationships. Like a storyteller, she builds a bridge between past and present. You can literally hear the crackling of the records on her grandfather&#x27;s gramophone. The changeable Σtella is enchanting.

Mano Santo

Mano Santo&#x27;s musical journey started with a great passion for West Coast hip-hop. Soon he started producing beats with his friends and his music naturally evolved across genres. Inspired by his roots in the Balkans and by the sampling culture in hip-hop music, he takes the freedom to experiment with rhythms and melodies and blends them as he sees fit. This is where he is most passionate and feels home. The outcome: a magnificent mix of cultures, languages, and genres.

As the name suggests, the album &quot;en casa veglia&quot; was created in an old house in the village of Gün. The former farmhouse is surrounded by picturesque landscapes, unspoilt nature, mountains, streams, forests and meadows. With your eyes closed, the surroundings are no less intoxicating. If you listen instead of just looking, you will be rewarded with a vast variety of sounds. This modern jazz quartet, led by double bass player Vito Cadonau, does not discriminate against &quot;noise&quot; as such, but appreciates and uses it as a musical treasure. After all, the Romansh word &quot;ramur&quot; means nothing less than &quot;noise&quot;.

&quot;In Domodossola, I was able to play my drumsticks on everything, the street lamps, the electricity boxes, the road signs,&quot; says Julian Sartorius, who is climbing the Weissmies (4017 metres above sea level) in the Valais from the Italian village of Domodossola (272 metres above sea level) on his new album &quot;Hidden Tracks&quot;. The sounds change the higher Sartorius climbs: Not only do the sounds of the city and the villages disappear, but nature also changes and becomes increasingly barren. FRAME.OUT is a musical storytelling about personal boundaries and social conventions. Victoria Mozalevskaya invites the audience on a journey that explores the facets of life. Together with singer Song Yi Jeon, whose voice captivates the audience, and the energetic, innovative sound of the duo Lada Obradovic and David Tixier, the quartet delves deep into its musical world – into complex grooves and experimental sound formation in the context of contemporary jazz. Experiencing music together is the focus of the family concert series at Moods. There is something for everyone, so there are no children&#x27;s songs, just interactive concerts that invite you to dance and marvel. In a relaxed and happy atmosphere, families have the opportunity to explore the colourful world of musical styles together and get caught up in the excitement. Children of all ages are welcome. We will make every effort to keep the volume at an appropriate level, but we do recommend hearing protection for the little ones. Children up to the age of 12 can attend the concert free of charge, but we ask that you reserve a free ticket in the system. Young people aged 12-16 pay half price. Can&#x27;t afford a ticket? ADG7

With various Korean instruments (Daegeum, Saenghwang, Ajaeng, Gayageum and Korean percussion) and powerful vocals based on folk traditions, ADG7 creates a blend of Korean pop and funk with cheerful and humorous elements. The ensemble consists of six musicians and three powerhouse folk singers. Their repertoire is influenced by rituals of shamanistic music (Gut) and the Korean folk song tradition (Minyo) from the Hwanghae region (now a western province in North Korea). ADG7 was formed in 2015 to mark the 70th anniversary of Korea&#x27;s liberation from Japanese colonial rule. Their music expresses the meaning of liberation and South Korea&#x27;s desire for reunification. ADG7 has received numerous awards and performed at international festivals including WOMEX 2019, Global FEST 2020, Glastonbury and Roskilde.

Abate Berihun & Addis Ken Project

Abate Berihun is a prolific saxophonist, composer and vocalist, a prominent Ethiopian musicians, who has toured and collaborated with musical giants such as Mulatu Astatke, Mahmoud Ahmed and Gigi. He is also the founder and leader of influential afro-jazz and ethnic ensembles “Tezeta”, “Ras Dashen” and “Kuluma”. Addis Ken – አዲስ ቀን (“New Day” in Amharic) – is Berihun’s new musical project, and it is all about soulful groove, spiritual search and heartfelt blues. The group brings to the stage original music that fuses Jewish-Ethiopian soul music and prayers passed through the generations with ageless spiritual and mysterious texts. The result is “a thrilling encounter between ancient Ethiopian traditions and the legacy of a modern jazz ensemble, steeped in musical adventurousness, deep groove, and the spirit of the blues.” The group has performed internationally in festivals and venues in Europe, North America and Central America, and their new album was released in 2023.

The Grammy-nominated vocals of this French-born singer shine with elegance and clarity, energetic optimism and razor-sharp scat. Cyrille Aimée has lived a life of improvisation: As a young woman, she sang in traveller people&#x27;s camps in her homeland and on street corners across Europe; today, she delights audiences at the world&#x27;s most prestigious jazz festivals and performs on Broadway. Her latest album &#x27;à Fleur de Peau&#x27;, which she will be presenting on this tour will be released on 8th March 2024.

Melodious and accessible: jazz trumpeter Nolan Quinn from Ticino plays catchy melodies and brings out the most diverse tone colours from the trumpet, whereby his sound never loses its warmth and softness. The Nolan Quinn Quintet plays jazz that sometimes takes a trip to hard bop, Broadway music or the blues. Simple compositions form the basis, which are further developed live by the improvisational power and spontaneity of the musicians around Nolan Quinn.  

José James presents 1978

José James is the epitome of modern jazz, but it almost came to nothing: The singer used to be an ardent supporter of hip-hop. It was only later that he worked his way through Nat King Cole to John Coltrane until he created his incomparable blend of jazz, soul, drum&#x27;n&#x27;bass and spoken word. Soulful trees are now growing on this soil, where the New York style chameleon with the fine voice can let off steam – and is difficult to capture!

After performing with Stephan Eicher and Patent Ochsner, the songwriter from Lucern is back on the road with her own band and is bringing her new album “Nid für Ewig” and the freshly pressed live version on vinyl to Moods! Folky singer-songwriter ballads, spherically dreamy hippie worlds and synth-pop with French charm - it&#x27;s all there. Sometimes very calm and unagitated, sometimes so moving that it&#x27;s hard not to dance along or howl with emotion. We are looking forward to a unique and emotional evening, also thanks to the participation of the choir &quot;The Chor&quot; from Zürich, lead by Heidi&#x27;s sister Anet Zemp.

Riff Cohen

Riff Cohen combines her Tunisian and Algerian heritage with her Israeli identity to create music that transcends cultural boundaries. With the release of her debut album A Paris (2010), which was created during an artist residency in the French capital, she laid the foundation for an international career that led to collaborations with Enrico Macias and Goran Bregović. She sings in Hebrew, Arabic, French and English; her music is characterized by Persian, Turkish, Iraqi, Moroccan, Algerian and Berber influences as well as elements of Israeli oriental music of the 90s. Riff Cohen uses the platform she is given as an artist to build a bridge between different cultures through music.

DJ Thomas Bohnet has been active as a DJ for 40 years. The Munich concert promoter and music journalist has worked or is working for media such as Musikexpress, Spex, taz, Süddeutsche Zeitung, the Zurich weekly WoZ, the Swiss music magazine Loop and Swiss radio SRF3 and formerly DRS 3 (Sounds). He has been touring the clubs with his TOUR DE FRANCE since May 2000: Munich, Düsseldorf, Erlangen, Constance are regularly on the program, from 2017-2022 also the Zurich Kosmos. The parties offer a danceable musical tour through the styles and genres of France. Mongolian singer Enji first came into contact with jazz at the Goethe-Institut in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia. She later studied jazz singing in her adopted home of Munich, where she now also realized her new album Ulaan (2023). The reactions to the album were overwhelming: #1 in the Washington Post, Best Jazz Albums of 2023 in the New York Times and hhv-mag. This spring, singer Enji will be touring Europe for the first time as a trio with guitarist Paul Brändle and River Adomeit on double bass: sensitive chamber jazz that meets the folklore of Mongolia.

The transformative power of music can be felt immediately with Kaspar and Björn. Marcel and Thomas have been playing together since Thomas was 10 minutes old. Other dimensions. Time does not exist. A double premiere! Irina Ungureanu and Anna Trauffer will be on stage together for the first time. And: Irina Ungureanu will also perform her own songs in Swiss German for the first time. But Romanian folk songs from her childhood will also find a place in the programme. The two singers will accompany each other with a multi-instrumental setup ranging from violin and zither to piano and various objects. You can look forward to a poetic, thoughtful, smiling and sometimes bizarre evening of words, sounds and songs.

Welcome to Agadez, the capital of Saharan rock! With her dynamic repertoire of hypnotic solos and sun-bleached melodies, Etran de L&#x27;Aïr has earned themself a permanent place in the guitar music of Agadez. While other Tuareg guitarists are oriented towards western rock, Etran de L&#x27;Aïr plays a pan-African style that is typical of their home town and quotes a variety of cultural influences: from northern Malian blues to Hausa bar bands to Congolese soukous. The music evokes the exuberance of a wedding in Agadez, with an overwhelming abundance of guitars, while simultaneous solos sweep over each other playfully and with restrained precision; powerful but never exuberant.

The JazzBaragge Wednesday Jam offers an important platform for the Swiss jazz jam scene. After the musical opening of the jam band, lively and exciting sound conversations begin between musicians who spontaneously meet on stage, reflecting the diversity of jazz in all its facets. The JazzBaragge Wednesday Jam is supported by the non-profit association JazzBaragge. After the first set the entry fee will be CHF 10.– as usual.

Few classical instruments are as clichéd as the harp: This instrument of the gods is said to sound sensual, harmonious, fragile, even ethereal. But Swiss musician Linda Vogel proves that the harp can also produce quite different sounds as well. Together with her brother Lukas Vogel, who is part of the internationally successful piano-electronica duo Grandbrothers, she now takes a much more powerful, darker, industrial approach. Using synthesizers and effect devices, electronic and acoustic, machine and organic, strings and oscillators merge - always carried by a third instrument that runs through the songs: Linda Vogel&#x27;s voice, dark, repetitive, hypnotic.

Together with Tillman Ostendarp, the drum triptych of Domi Chansorn, Arthur Hnatek and Mario Hänni seek enlightenment in the eternally repetitive waters of woody primal beats and mutually shifting odd meters. Join them on an exhilarating adventure and discover new heights and depths of groove. Jack of all trades or child prodigy? One thing is clear: Domi Chansorn is one of the most exciting figures on the Swiss music scene. The singer, drummer, guitarist, pianist and composer is a musician with every fibre of his being. He plays jazz and avant-garde pop as well as prog rock and thoughtful songwriting material, sometimes psychedelic rock, sometimes electronic, dark and emotional.

The musicians Russudan Meipariani, Tamriko Kordzaia, Lena Kiepenheuer and scenographer Sophie Krayer, who have come together from (almost) all corners of the globe - Georgia, Switzerland and Germany - to form an eclectic ensemble, create a play with song forms from different epochs: They combine songs and playing styles, bring in Franz Schubert and Guillaume de Machaut and premiere music by Georgian composers such as Anushka Chkheidze, Nika Machaidze, Russudan Meipariani and Natalie Beridze. Natalie Beridze will also take part in the performance of her own pieces written for Ensemble Kiosk.

Anna & Stoffner mit Membrez und Mantel

The band Anna &amp; Stoffner with Membrez and Mantel captivates with a highly energetic interplay of virtuoso musicians and urgent, unsparing lyrics. Rapper Anna Frey and guitarist Flo Stoffner, with Vincent Membrez on synthesizers and Lukas Mantel on drums, develop an intensity that is hard to resist. «Less than little is nothing, but little is more than nothing, little makes a difference.» This band is not afraid of the void and does not cover it up, but faces it, follows it and thus develops its own language, with driving grooves, poppy melodies, free improvisation, idiosyncratic guitars and dark, engaging basses. Rapper Anna Frey moves over this musical diversity with her poetic lyrics. Sometimes in singsong, sometimes in harsh phrasing. Always in search of the immediate expression.
