Simon's concert tips in March

Simon Fischer02-20-20252 min. read

In March, a tsunami of high-energy bands will roll towards Moods. It will be hot in the club, very hot, and there will be wild dancing, hands will be thrown in the air, the stage will shake, the Schiffbau will tremble.

Saturday, 1. March Les Frères Smith
The Smith brothers? Are they really all brothers? And why have I never heard of this band before? Questions upon questions. I have to come to the concert so that I can get some clarity here. Because they are truly fantastic! Their mélange of funk and highlife, jazz and soul, spiced with tropical flavors, grabbed me immediately!
Saturday, 8. March: The Clients
Swiss Funk at it's best! What more is there to say? Get on the dancefloor and dance! And make sure you get the latest EP “Sell out”, which will be preseted on this evening. Before it's sold out and can only be found for a multiple of the original price on Discogs.
Saturday, 15. March: Vaudou Game
A good friend of mine still claims to this day that I was at Vaudou Game's last concert at Moods in 2019. But that's not true. I missed it! I don't know why either. Because that's totally my sound. Groovy afro-funk! Fela Kuti sends his regards. I'll be there this time!
Sunday, 16. March: Manon Mullener 5tet feat. David Stauffacher
What Manon and her band serve up here is Latin jazz at its very best! And that from a Swiss band! I wouldn't have expected it to be like this. It has everything I love about Latin jazz: the driving power of the piano and the rhythm section, melancholy horns, groovy bass. What more could you want?
Tuesday, 18. March: Chico Freeman’s Exotica
The name Chico ultimately brings Chico Hamilton to mind. He was also on the road with very different formations and projects and was one of the greatest drummers. At least for me. Chico Freeman is also one of the greatest. Only on the saxophone. A living legend with an impressive pedigree. His Exotica project with Heiri Känzig and Reto Weber can be seen and heard at Moods for the first time in 10 years. Definitely not to be missed!
Tuesday, 25. March: Mark Lettieri
Normally I'm not into guitar fusion sounds at all. The name didn't mean anything to me either. But when I saw his video, I was immediately hooked. It's pure funk! So I thought, give yourself a jolt, Simon, and Mark a chance. So I'm really looking forward to the concert.
Sunday, 30. March: Portable Infinity
Portable infinity? What a name! But it hits the nail on the head, because that's exactly what the music of the top-class quartet with Jacob Karlzon, Benjamin Koppel, Scott Colley and Magnus Öström sounds like. The perfect sound for a Sunday evening and a smooth start into Monday.
