In a loose concert series in collaboration with the Indian Music Circle, Moods presents the richness of Indian music. Manish Pingle stands as one of the foremost exponents of the Indian slide guitar, an instrument that blends the resonant qualities of the guitar with the melodic richness of the sitar. Trained in classical vocals, Manish has developed an distinctive style on the slide guitar that is deeply rooted in the tradition of Indian classical music while also creatively exploring it. His collaborations with international artists showcase to his ability to bridge genres and cultures, making him an captivating performer for audiences worldwide. At Moods he performs alongside renowned tabla player Shrirang Mirajkar, whose rhythmic artistry adds depth and dynamism to the performance. Shrirang is an experienced percussionist with a profound understanding of Indian classical music and brings precision, creativity and intuitive musicality to every collaboration. His mastery of the complex patterns of the tabla and his ability to engage in a spirited rhythmic dialog make him the ideal partner for Manish&#x27;s expressive slide guitar.

Having grown up in a musical environment in a small mountain village in Uri, pianist, composer and bandleader Gisela Horat founded her eponymous trio in 2009. Drummer Samuel Büttiker and bassist Simon Iten have been on board since May 2015. Both are experienced musicians with impressive versatility. The trio tells musical stories that life writes in all its shades. Based on musical sketches and composed songs by the pianist, exciting encounters between composition and improvisation arise, which are characterized by the different worlds of experience of the individual musicians. In numerous concerts, the three have developed their interplay and their own band sound, inspiring audiences with their strong stage presence and the intense expression of their music. In addition to the influences of Eric Satie, Bill Evans, Enrico Pieranunzi, Esbjörn Svensson, The Necks and Sylvie Courvoisier, the pianist&#x27;s classical background is also unmistakable. This lends a harmonious framework to her lyrical and painterly playing, which also appeals to a non-jazz-savvy audience. Jaubi (pronounced &#x27;Jaw-bee&#x27;) is an Urdu word that can be loosely translated as &#x27;whatever/whoever&#x27;. This description fits the band from Lahore perfectly. Their guiding principle is to do whatever sounds and feels good. They blend jazz and raga with hip-hop beats to create their unique sound. Although Jaubi describe themselves as a quartet, this line-up is never heard, at least not on albums. They always collaborate with other musicians during the creative process. This is exactly what characterises the band: Internationality, creativity, and the ability to collaborate. This also impressed Tenderlonius. The British jazz producer and Ruby Rushton bandleader recorded &#x27;Nafs at Peace&#x27; with them, helping Jaubi to achieve an international breakthrough. Tenderlonius will accompany them to Moods, where they will perform their sensual new album, A Sound Heart, with the band.

J&#x27;peux Tim, originally from Kosovo, is the founder and co-owner of Kasheme Zürich and the founder of the Spirit Music Society music label. He has been spinning records in Switzerland and abroad for nearly a decade. Dance music, Jazz Fusion and Spiritual Jazz make his heart beat a tick faster. Yunus Findus, a re-imported Obwaldner export from Istanbul, works as booker at Moods and is co-founder of the Beach Club Underground and Half Notes at the Smoke Floor collectives. He is passionate about living in a world without curly parsley. Together, the two friends ensure healthy curls and dancing hair.

Since its foundation three decades ago, the Zurich Jazz Orchestra (ZJO) has established itself as one of Europe&#x27;s leading professional big bands. With tireless energy, artistic curiosity and a deep love of the big band tradition, the ensemble has had a decisive influence on the Zurich jazz scene - with its unmistakable sound of swinging elegance, experimental openness and orchestral power. The musical development of the ZJO has been decisively shaped by the various musical directors, who have set new impulses with their signature style and expanded the stylistic diversity of the orchestra. Each era - whether characterized by their own compositions and arrangements, international collaborations or programmatic curiosity - has furthered the ZJO&#x27;s artistic identity. On its 30th anniversary, the ZJO looks back on an impressive musical journey. The anniversary concert program brings together highlights from the repertoire of the past decades - works that have particularly shaped the ensemble and its audience. At the same time, we are opening up the archive and bringing some hidden treasures back to the stage: less frequently performed compositions and arrangements that impressively expand the artistic spectrum of the ZJO. Pianist and composer Floriano Inacio Jr. has &quot;Duas Moradas&quot; (two homes) - he moved from the global metropolis of São Paulo to Bülach. And so his fifth album, which tells the story of this journey, is called Duas Moradas. The songs were written all over the world and recorded in a studio in the Brazilian hinterland. Inacio Jr. was inspired by nature, his family and his musician and poet friends, whose memory resonates in every note. The album captivates with a variety of Brazilian rhythms, which are also strongly influenced by the aesthetics of jazz. With engaging melodies, contemporary harmonies and expressive improvisation, the work reveals Floriano&#x27;s passion for jazz, especially Brazilian jazz.

Chief Adjuah fka Christian Scott

Chief Xian aTunde Adjuah, formerly Christian Scott, is a two-time Edison Award-winning, six-time Grammy Award-nominated, Doris Duke Award in the Arts awardee. He is a sonic architect, trumpeter, multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, designer of innovative technologies and musical instruments (including the Adjuah Trumpet, Siren, Sirenette, Chief Adjuah’s Bow and Chief Adjuah’s N’Goni). He is also the founder and CEO of the Stretch Music App and Recording Company. Adjuah is Chieftain and Oba of the Xodokan Nation as well as the current Grand Griot of New Orleans. He is the grandson of Louisiana luminary and legend, the late Big Chief Donald Harrison Sr., Guardians Institute founder and Grand Griot, Herreast Harrison. Since 2001, Adjuah has released thirteen critically acclaimed studio recordings, four live albums, and one greatest hits collection. He is widely recognized as the progenitor of the “Stretch Music,” style. A 21st-century approach that asserts genre blindness and an ethnomusicological approach to limitless fusion that heralded NPR to hail him as “Ushering in a new era of Jazz&quot; and JazzTimes Magazine to mark him as &quot;Jazz&#x27;s young style God.&quot; and “the architect of a commercially viable fusion”. He has collaborated with a number of notable artists, including Prince, Thom Yorke, McCoy Tyner, Marcus Miller, Flea, Eddie Palmieri, Robert Glasper, rappers Mos Def (Yasin Bey), Talib Kweli, as well as heralded poet and musician Saul Williams. Adjuah scores music for his identical twin brother’s, writer/director and visual artist Kiel Adrian Scott, filmic works. It is our pleasure to have Chief Adjuah return to moods after 6 years, in time to start our 2025-2026 season.

The Lincke-Menzi-Härtel trio has been on the road as the Altfrentsche Besetzung since 2015. Violinist Matthias Lincke, Elias Menzi on the Appenzell dulcimer and bass fiddler and yodeller Matthias Härtel skilfully combine their traditional roots with their urge for free musical expression. Andrea Kirchhofer and her duo Zugluft are known for their unhinged folk music for the 21st century. When she meets the Altfrentsche line-up, she mixes home-made Altfrentsche string music with new sounds from klezmer, minimal music and tango. When the trio, which has been expanded into a quartet, plays for the dance, original and at the same time innovative music is created in the field of tension between the oddball jazz of Thelonious Monk and classical Appenzell string music, influenced by families of musicians such as the Mosers or Alders. A musical departure, also on the dance floor!

La Yegros

La Yegros is considered the queen of nu-cumbia. Traditions from her birthplace Buenos Aires meet innovation; acoustic instruments such as accordion and wind instruments meet electronically produced grooves and basslines between funk, house and dancehall. This duality runs through the entire album “Haz” (2024, X-Ray), which is characterized by personal experiences. The intimate, sometimes melancholic themes, performed with her inimitable energy, make each of her concerts an unforgettable celebration.
