The JazzBaragge Wednesday Jam provides an important platform for the Swiss jazz jam scene. As a musical prelude to the start of the year, the audience can expect hot grooves, rousing solos, catchy shout parts paired with a powerful, expressive voice. The raw playfulness with pulsating energy should inspire jam musicians on the first day of 2025 in a passionate, hypnotic and ecstatic manner. Afrobeats Explosion and Dancehall Mood are teaming up for this New Year&#x27;s Eve and presenting you with the best that the current Afrobeats, dancehall and reggae scene in Zurich has to offer. The entire spectrum of the local DJ scene and sound systems will come together at Moods to close out 2024. This promises an evening full of Afrobeats and dancehall hits as well as reggae rarities. Get ready for a dance explosion of a special kind!

JUR Records invites you to the V.I.P. Session: Get ready for a wild night of dancing with well-known DJs and a good dose of drum&#x27;n&#x27;bass! Introduced to soul, R&amp;B, hip-hop, and rock by his English and Kenyan parents, Andrew Davies, better known as Degs, discovered drum &amp; bass as a teenager and instantly fell in love with its beats, basslines, and futuristic soundscapes. Having learned to play a variety of instruments as a child, Degs later turned to singing and experimented with rapping over the drum &amp; bass tracks of the time. These experiments quickly garnered attention, and in 2011, Degs was appointed Resident MC at the Frequency Drum &amp; Bass Sessions (Volks, Brighton). In addition to his vocal talent, Degs has made a name for himself as a DJ – his Hospital Podcasts are a true delight. We’re thrilled to welcome Degs to our decks for the very first time to share his unique tunes. For those seeking conventional sounds, this isn’t the place: QZB are reshaping drum &amp; bass – precise, focused, and with an infectious dynamism. Since joining forces in 2012, the duo has been relentlessly perfecting their craft. The impressive results so far include sold-out club nights, festival performances across Europe, and releases on the cutting-edge label for future sounds, Critical Music. That the hottest name in the scene would someday emerge from Basel was hardly expected. For that very reason, you should keep an eye on this duo&#x27;s meteoric rise – there are no limits in sight. In 2023, QZB released their long-awaited debut album, Future Forever. Our stellar lineup is rounded out by brilliant locals Drred b2b Luke Castle (Sector B) and the JUR team members Hellchild and Frog U.

Just before Christmas, Moods traditionally invites you to &#x27;Swingin&#x27; Christmas&#x27;. This year, for the first time, there will be a family concert where the whole family can get into the Christmas spirit. After all, who doesn&#x27;t know them? Raw, unpolished, and full of energy. Hosting the night is the exceptional collective Jonny Ive, Pablo, Toni Schiavano, and Flo Reichle. This time, we’re thrilled to welcome: Chelan – Finally, the Romandie is back! On his latest work “Run to the Sun”, this versatile artist explores the depths of his mental state, wrapping it in sophisticated Neo-Soul and Pop. Together with Nnavy (who performed here in April – aww yeah!), he represents a new wave of Swiss-French Soul. As a winner of the M4Music and SRF 3 Best Talent awards, Chelan has already left a lasting impression – now it’s time to conquer the German-speaking part of Switzerland. Sofia Sy – With her debut album “I Am Through You So I”, this young singer delivers an impressive blend of Soul, RnB, Pop, Bossa Nova, and Afro Beats. Her versatility and emotional depth are a perfect match for the Style Bakery vibe. Shape – The Basel Grand Seigneur of Swiss Rap, known from the genre’s first golden era. Alongside Spooman, he set new standards as the “Dynamic Duo” around the turn of the millennium. Now, for the very first time, he’ll take the stage at Style Bakery. A great honor! Pablo – Usually co-hosting the evening alongside Jonny Ive, this time he steps into the spotlight as a performer. Pablo is not only a rap and culinary connoisseur but also one of the most skilled rappers in the country. We’re eagerly anticipating his debut performance as Pablo – a taste of his long-awaited solo album set to release in the spring. Hommage an Sarah Vaughan: «The Divine One»

In 2024 we will celebrate the centenary of the birth of Sarah Vaughan, one of the greatest jazz singers in history. Her career spanned almost five decades and she performed with a wide range of top jazz musicians and big bands. She won two Grammy Awards and was nominated for nine. In 1989 she was named an NEA Jazz Master and critic Scott Yanow wrote that she was &#x27;...one of the most wondrous voices of the 20th century&#x27;. Sarah Vaughan began her professional career in the early 1940s as a singer in the big bands of Earl Hines and Billy Eckstine, where she met and sang with such jazz innovators as Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie and Miles Davis. For most of her highly successful career she played in small jazz groups, but she returned to big bands on several occasions and in 1954 began a fruitful artistic partnership with Count Basie that lasted for decades. The last album Sarah Vaughan recorded with the Count Basie Orchestra was &#x27;Send In The Clowns&#x27; in 1981, and Sandy Patton has preserved the Count Basie Orchestra&#x27;s original arrangements, which she has generously shared with the Zurich Jazz Orchestra. These original arrangements will form the core of the programme, and we will play some classic Count Basie instrumentals to complement the wonderfully swinging vocal charts. As always, the great ensemble playing and excellent soloists of the Zurich Jazz Orchestra will be featured.

Trio Heinz Herbert

The music of the Zurich trio Heinz Herbert is urban, sometimes hectic, and yet leaves room to breathe. They let themselves be seduced by sounds, jump on the patterns of drum machines and drift off into spheres of minimal music and industrial jazz. The equality of all sounds magically attracts us - the quiet, the inharmonic, the harmonic, the zooming in and out, field recordings, 4/4, polyrhythms, &#x27;in sync - out of sync&#x27;. We try to give equal importance to each of these sounds, ideas or concepts to create music that is often structured in non-traditional ways,&quot; the trio said in an interview with Luke Fowler. Released in February 2024, «Tomorrow Wonderland» is the Swiss band&#x27;s fifth album. Two years in the making, it is the result of over 12 years of living and working together and is a thrilling, ever-evolving and unique journey with strange harmonies, elegant microtimings and intense colour tones.

Sarah Büchi has studied various types of music in order to develop songwriting, world and jazz in a highly personal way. In September 2024, the Swiss singer released her seventh album as a bandleader on the Intakt Records label. «pink mountain sagas» delivers what the name promises: with her warm and dark voice, Sarah Büchi takes us into the imaginative world of sagas, sometimes sung picturesquely, sometimes rhythmically, sometimes the pieces sound like a soundtrack from a film, then again they are replaced by jazzy passages.

Emmet Cohen celebrates the jazz tradition: the finest jazz, with swing, precision and, in the words of Downbeat Magazine, &quot;a nimble touch, measured step and warm harmonic vocabulary&quot;. He sees himself as a mediator between the audience and his fellow musicians, who in addition to his trio have included Jimmy Cobb, Ron Carter, Benny Golson, Tootie Heath and George Coleman. In other words, Emmet Cohen brings a fresh palette of sounds to classic jazz forms with an almost unparalleled mastery and passion.

Lakiko&#x27;s music – an impression of her musical biography – could not be more diverse. Influences of Bosnian folk music mix with classical music, breathed pop vocals with contemporary spoken word, driving beats next to seemingly endless glissandi loops, and in between always the haunting sound of a cello. And when the spectacle is over, the listener is sent home with a feeling of bittersweet melancholy.

Laure Betris Duo

Since her beginnings, she has adopted a do-it-yourself approach to music, cultivating her taste for artisanal creations, exchanges with like-minded people, analogue and, above all, independence. Singer, writer and multi-instrumentalist Laure Betris draws not only from all musical (rock, techno, noise, etc.) and artistic (visual arts, literature, dance, etc.) genres, but also from the library of languages (English, French, Chaldean) and the richness of her collaborations. In a duet with drummer and singer Yann Hunziker from Vevey, she proposes a form of total artisanship that is both therapeutic and magical.

The JazzBaragge Allstars invite all the Jam musicians that have contributed during the last 20 years. For over 20 years the JazzBaragge Wednesday Jam has been an important platform for the Swiss jazz jam scene. The musical start of the Jam Band leads to a lively and exciting tonal dialogue between musicians who then meet up spontaneously on stage to explore all the facets of jazz. The JazzBaragge Wednesday Jam is organised by the non-profitmaking JazzBaragge Association.
