«Aglio. Olio. Let's Go.»
When accidents happen, they usually happen in seconds, sometimes in minutes. But this one has been going on for 20 years... That's how long it's been since the members of the Emile Parisien Quartet first played together at a jam session. At the end, they looked at each other in disbelief. Not only had they been struck by a collective musical lightning bolt, but they also knew that they had just...well...brought something to life. The common breeding ground was jazz, but everyone had all kinds of seeds to sow in it, from classical music and contemporary sounds to rock, electronica and chanson. Saxophonist Emile Parisien, pianist Julien Touéry, bassist Ivan Gélugne and drummer Julien Loutelier tear down barriers, change rules and yet know exactly where they want to go. “The central concern of the band was and is storytelling,” emphasizes Parisien.
Their new album “Let Them Cook” is like a fresh breeze and the band's music audibly breathes the spirit of the year 2024 and no longer that of the founding year 2004. There was a special moment along the way: at a concert in Sweden towards the end of their “Double Screening” tour, they took the opportunity to deviate from a purely acoustic sound and integrate some electronics. It worked and it seemed that these electronic sprinkles never contaminated the band's sound, but rather enhanced it.
